普遍英國人相對守時，因此我們最好在有關約會前10至15分鐘內到達。 以下是有關準時的表達方法：
1) be there on the dot “dot” = 「點」；這裏有準時的含意
2) arrive on time 準時到達
3) Please arrive at 3 sharp! “sharp” 本身解作尖銳、銳；在這裏有準時三點到達的意思
4) arrive exactly at four 準時四時到達
5) arrive at least fifteen minute earlier 最少早15分鐘到達
在一些家庭聚會或晚宴邀請中，你可能會聽見例如 "Please arrive seven-thirty for eight". 這個意思代表你可以於7:30至8:00時到達；這個時段一般都會以香檳或其他飲品招待，在八時後之後就正式用餐了。 在這句中通常會使用 “for” 而非 “to”，大家可以想像成「為了」(for) 八時的食物七時半到達。
大家要留意，如果經常遲到的話，那麼別人對你的評語將會是 “Punctuality is never his strong point/ strong suit.” 守時 (punctuality) 並不是他的強項！
以下是一般敘述時間的方法
4:15 pm: Four fifteen / Four Fifteen in the afternoon / 15 minutes past four / a quarter past four
3:00 am: Three in the morning
12:00 pm: Twelve in the afternoon/ Twelve noon/ Noon/ Midday12
12 “Midday” 和 “midnight” 的 “mid” 都是指 “middle” 中間。
4:30 pm: Half past four / Four thirty
12:00 am: Midnight
5:15 pm: A quarter13 past five / Five fifteen in the afternoon
英語中一個 quarter 代表¼ ；因此5:15即將一個時鐘解開4份，已過了第一份，因此有 Quarter 的說法。而不少統計上都會見到 “the first quarter”的字眼，意思是指一年的首¼，亦即第一季或首三個月。
