不幸遇上交通意外，我們需根據現場環境及實際情況向有關單位說明; 以下這些例子只供參考，(句子需根據實際情景互相調動或替換) 大家可根據當中句子了解一些專用名詞及形容事件正確的相應說法 -
1) The road was slippery when I was driving up a ramp. My car skidded1 forward and I braked to a stop. 由於道路濕滑 (slippery)，我駕車上斜坡 (ramp) 時，我的車子向前 (forward) 滑行 (skid) 了後我便剎車 (braked to a stop) 了。
“Skid” 是專門形容車子不受控制地滑行的動詞。
2) The car in front of me skidded backwards and I rear-ended his car. Since we didn’t go very fast, it wasn't a bad accident. The bumper on my car cracked and the other driver's license plate fell off. Nobody was hurt. 前方車子溜後 (skidded backward)，因此我撞到他的車尾。由於我們雙方並非高速行駛，所以不算是一個很嚴重的意外。我的保險杆 (bumper) 裂開 (crack) 了，而另外那輛汽車的車牌 (license plate) 則掉下來 (fell off) 了。 沒有人受傷。
3) As the driver was rounding the corner, he lost control of his car and ploughed into the other lane. The car was overturned. 當司機的車輛轉彎 (round the corner) 時，他的車失控 (lost control) 衝進 (plough) 了另一行車線中 (the other lane) 的汽車。車子反轉 (overturned) 了。
4) As the driver was overtaking another, he went through a red light 當司機超越前面的車子 (overtake) 時，他衝過紅燈。
5) A lorry jackknifed, spilling its load over the road. 一輛貨車被撞彎成 V型 (jackknife)，貨品散落 (spill) 在道路上。
6) A car skidded on a wet/ oily surface and the driver lost control. 車子因濕滑 (wet)/ 有油漬 (oily) 的地面，導致司機失控。
7) The car driver misjudged the distance and crashed into the car in front. 司機錯誤判斷 (misjudge) 距離而撞上了前面的汽車。
當某些動詞加上 “mis-” 的時候，會為字詞加上「錯誤」這個意思。例如：misjudge 錯誤判斷、miscalculate 錯誤計算、mismatch錯配。
