You: I just bought an old house and plan to move in with my family from Hong Kong next month, I would like to make some improvements for the place.
我買了一間舊屋及計劃下個月與我在香港的家人搬入這裏，所以我想為這裏做少少改善 (improvements) 工程。
Designer: Sure and for most cases we will…… 當然，而大部份案例 (情況) 我們會.......
1. We will pulling out all of the old carpet (地氈) and laying down(佈置擺放)some new one throughout the house; 我們會先產起 (pulling up) 所有舊地氈 (carpet) 以及在全屋放置 (laying down) 一些全新的地氈;
2. We will put in new light fixtures as the old ones don’t light up the rooms very well 由於現在的燈未能好好照明 (light up) 房間，所以我們會佈置一些新的燈飾裝置 (light fixtures);
3. Remodel the entire kitchen by putting in new kitchen cabinets (櫥櫃), a new counter top (枱面), a new sink (洗手盆) and water tap (水龍頭) , and new linoleum (地板塊). 我們會重新規劃 (remodel) 整個廚房，由案子新廚房櫥櫃、新枱面、新洗手盆、水龍頭以及新的地板塊;
4. Buy some new appliances for the kitchen such as oven, microwave, kettle; 為廚房添置一些新的家電器 (new appliances) 例如焗爐 (oven) 、微波爐 (microwave) 及煲水壺 (kettle); (一般牆式焗爐我們稱之為 ‘wall oven’)
5. At the backyard, we will build a shed where we can sit, relax, and barbecue. 在後花園 (backyard)，我們將件起一個簷篷 (shed) 讓我們能夠坐下, 放鬆 (relax) 以及燒烤 (barbecue);
6. One final thing I need to do is shingle the roof. The old shingles are falling off in places, and if I don’t replace them, there might be leaks in the house. 最後一件事情，我需要為屋頂鋪瓦頂 (shingle the roof); 那些舊的瓦片已經掉下 (falling off) 來了。如果我不在更換 (replace)，有些位置將有機會漏水 (leaks)。
By the time I’m finished with these home improvement projects, the place should look as good as new. 當我完成這些屋企家居改善之後，相信這個地方會與新的地方一樣 (look as good as new) !
